A TALE OF TWO CITIES

How It All Began

The thought of owning and running our own coffee business had been a dream of Yoli's for years after visiting a coffee shop in a small town while on a family road trip in 2001. This was a lingering background thought to raising kids and enjoying life as a family of 5. Surely enough, Yoli's love of coffee was inherited by Rick and the rest of the family as the years passed by.

Rick's curiosity about coffee grew as the thought of roasting his own coffee piqued his interest. So in 2013, he ordered green coffee beans of various origins and began to discover the vast array of flavours found from each region and country. He began to share these discoveries with friends and family, researched the craft of coffee roasting, and grew more and more passionate about his new-found hobby. Rick was determined not only to roast coffee but to highlight each bean’s individual notes and aromas.

Meanwhile, Rick and Yoli's daughter Chelsea began learning about coffee through her job in the specialty coffee industry. She enjoyed being a barista and discoved how coffee can impact and connect people from around the world. Having majored in social science in college, Chelsea wanted to connect her love for history, geography, and culture with a long-time desire to travel overseas on a missions trip and meet global needs. So, in the spring of 2013, she registered to travel to the South Pacific to host medical clinics with Medical Ministries International (MMI), a local Clovis non-profit organization (learn more here). Chelsea, Rick, and Yoli began to plan ways to fund Chelsea's volunteer travels.

A Business In The Making

The Reeves took their interest in coffee culture and decided to start a family business roasting coffee right here in our hometown of Clovis, CA. So, Yoli's long-time idea of owning her own coffee business became reality, Chelsea departed on her month-long medical trip after raising the needed funds, and Rick began designing and building his very own professional coffee roaster by hand. With a background in mechanical engineering, Rick fabricated each piece of metal, painted each component, and assembled the roaster piece by piece. Late nights, many cups of coffee, and several hundreds of hours later, our shiny new roaster was completed. Hearing those first beans tumbling was music to our ears. We started transporting our mobile roaster to farmers markets and events and crafted specialty coffee drinks for our new-found coffee community.

Meanwhile, Chelsea saw first-hand the impact that MMI can make in countries that desperately need medical supplies and clinics. Having traveled with MMI's founders, she caught their passion for global medical aid, and we knew we wanted to contribute to their cause. So, for every bag of coffee we sell, we donate a portion of the proceeds to MMI and give to local non-profits making an impact in California's Central Valley.

Two Cities Coffee Roasters

After a name change and rebrand in 2016, we are now able to communicate our passion for coffee and people better than every before. Our name Two Cities Coffee Roasters has a two-fold purpose.

It represents the dual community of Clovis & Fresno, California where we are located and operate. We have a passion for connecting with people in both cities through our coffee. And through our resources and relationships with our community, we love helping to meet community needs.
It represents our connection with our coffee family in other cities, as well as our contribution to making a global impact.

A Growing Passion

We apply our ever growing knowledge of coffee to all that we do. Staying true to roasting only organic coffee beans, our products are chemical and pesticide-free, which is good for you and for the farmers growing our coffees who would otherwise be exposed to dangerous chemicals.

Our coffee beans are all fair trade and/or relationship sourced, ensuring that the farmers and growers of our coffee beans are paid fairly for their labor. We also roast some rainforest alliance beans, which helps preserve and grow the earth's rainforest and animal populations that have been harshly affected by infringing global industries and production.

All of our beans are 100% Arabica specialty-grade coffees, which are among the highest quality beans grown & roasted in the world.

We freshly roast our coffee beans weekly, providing high quality taste and aroma that isn’t old or stale.

We strive to be leaders in the coffee industry by introducing innovative new products, brew methods, tastes, and concepts to our community.
